Each week, Patch Pets features a dog and cat available for adoption from Heartland Animal Shelter. During November, many of Heartland’s older pets will be featured in honor of Adopt-A-Senior Pet month.
Scrappy Do
Scrappy Do may be little but he is full of life, loves walks and playing outside. He is classified as a “special needs” dog because he needs special owners to give him a home and work with him. Scrappy Do has food aggression issues and because of that he shouldn’t go to a home with other dogs or with small children. He does get along fine with dogs while on his walks and this five year old Shih Tzu mix
Dog Adoption Information – Because Scrappy Do is a special needs dog and an older dog his dog adoption fee is $150 and includes neuter, up-to-date vaccines, deworming and heartworm test. Puppy adoption fees and regular dog adoption fees are slightly higher.

Leonardo has been adopted.
Cat Adoption Information - Heartland's cat adoption fee is $100 and includes up-to-date vaccinations, deworming, microchip, neuter/spay, a FIV/FeLuek test and a free vet exam within two weeks of adoption. Adoption fees for kittens less than five-months-old are slightly higher.
Heartland Animal Shelter, at 2975 Milwaukee Ave. in Northbrook, is open from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 12-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
