‘The Torch' named All American newspaper
The Torch, Glenbrook North's student run newspaper, recently earned recognition as an All-American newspaper from the National Scholastic Press Association.
Torch entered the National Scholastic Press Association's annual competition and critique service for the 2010-2011 school year and earned a score of 3,700. Papers that compile at least 3,200 points and fourmarks of distinction (out of a possible five) qualify for All American status.
Marks of Distinction are awarded for exemplary work in five sections of judging. Torch earned Marks of Distinction in the areas of Coverage & Content, Writing & Editing, Layout & Design and Leadership.
Offering a comment with the Mark of Distinction for Leadership, the judge wrote, "It is clear that you are mindful that your most important purpose as the school newspaper is to cover campus issues as well as topics relevant to the lives of your readers. You do so in a professional manner that is to be commended."
The 2010-2011 editor-in-chief was Alex Rokni and the managing editor was Jane Kim.
