YMCA Seeks Art Show Submissions from Junior High Artists

The Visual Arts Department of the North Suburban YMCA will host a juried art show for junior high students, with cash prizes to be awarded by judges from the Northbrook Arts Commission.  Open to students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, the submitted works will be displayed at the YMCA throughout November. The Y will host a reception and awards ceremony on November 4 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Students may deliver their artwork to the guest service desk at the YMCA, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook, between September 15 and October 20. All submissions must be two-dimensional and ready to hang. The Arts Commission will award prizes for first, second and third place in each of the three grade levels.

Young artists who would like assistance or guidance regarding their project are welcome to attend a free workshop session in the Y art studio on September 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Instructors from the Y as well as art students from Glenbrook North High School will be on hand to offer help, ideas and advice. The Y also offers a number of visual arts classes for children and youth, with fall classes beginning the first week of September. For more information about the Junior High Art Show or other art programs at the North Suburban Y, contact Cathie Winnie at 847 272 7250 or cwinnie@nsymca.org.
