Nekritz Wins 57th IL House District Race Vs. Greenberg

Democrat Elaine Nekritz defeated Republican Jonathan Greenberg, 55 to 45 percent.

The Nekritz campaign has confirmed she accepted the victory in the Illinois House 57th district race. 

"It was a hard-fought race," Nekritz said. "It's now time to shift from campaigning to getting down to business on pension reform and the other important issues facing our state."

"I'm happy to get to work with this district's support behind me," she added.

Updated at 9:50 p.m.

Jonathan Greenberg has confirmed he conceded the race to Elaine Nekritz. 

"Tonight, the results indicate that - while we convinced a lot of people - we didn't convince enough of our neighbors," Greenberg said in a statement. "I congratulate Rep. Nekritz on her victory and pray that she will be able to solve our big problems."

With most of the Cook County precincts reporting, Nekritz has pulled ahead.

As the first results come in from Cook County, the race is in a dead heat.

Democratic incumbent, Elaine Nekritz, faces a challenge from Republican newcomer, Jonathan Greenberg, in the 57th Illiinois House District.

Nekritz has served in the Illinois House since 2003. She is the Chair of the House Personnel and Pensions Committee. The former lawyer and Northfield Township Democratic Committeeman lives in Northbrook. 

Greenberg lives in Northbrook with his wife and two sons. He is an ordained rabbi, Indiana University alumnus and a former Democrat. Greenberg used to work for The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and currently works part-time for The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, where he raises money for anti-poverty charities.

First they'll take as much money as they can from the Northbrook sheep, then the state will start defaulting on its pensions anyway. How sad that such smart people are so blind to political reality.
