Accident On Tri-State Sends Five Teens To Hospital

A car speeding on I-294 rolled into a ditch around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

A car traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour flipped over and rolled into a ditch Tuesday during rush hour on the Tri-State Tollway, according to police.

Following the accident, the five teenaged occupants of the car were transported to area hospitals, according to Sergeant Nizar Hasan of the Illinois State Tollway Police. No other cars were involved in the accident, which happened at 5:25 p.m. near the Willow Road exit.

The car was traveling south on I-294 when the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped into a ditch on the right side of the road, eventually coming to rest against a tree, according to Hasan. The driver of the accident was issued citations, he added, but information on the exact charges was not immediately available.

Tollway Police were unable to provide the names of the people involved in the accident, who were taken to NorthShore University Health System’s Glenbrook and Highland Park hospitals and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Hasan said the teens were all from the northern suburbs.

According to Northbrook Fire Deputy Chief Ron Schinleber, the injuries sustained were "non life-threatening." Northbrook's Fire Department sent three ambulances, one fire engine and a fire chief to the scene of the accident.
