Blotter: "Huffing" Leads to DUI; Shoplifters Hit Willow Festival

The police report activity from Oct. 3 - 9, 2011.

The items below came from  reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DUI and Warrant Arrest

Ignacio Gonzalez Jr., 23, of Waukegan, was stopped for a traffic violation Sunday, Oct. 2, at Landwehr Road and Prestwick Lane and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, improper lane usage and possession of cannabis, according to police. His passenger, Timanthony Verner, 23, of Chicago, was also arrested after police determined that he was wanted on a DUI warrant out of Jackson County.

Driving Under the Influence

Dominique L. Burns, 26, of Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation Saturday, Oct. 8, at Willow and Landwehr roads, according to police. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and improper lane usage.

John Sullivan, 45, of Northbrook, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and improper parking on a roadway Saturday, Oct. 8, after police received calls about a man slumped over the steering wheel at Pfingsten and Koepke roads. When police arrived, Sullivan told them he had drunk three beers. After an officer pointed out a can of pressurized gas duster in a bag on the floor of the car, Sullivan allegedly admitted that he had also huffed from the can approximately one hour before, according to police. 

Dennis V. Nabatov, 30, of Wheeling, was stopped for a traffic violation Sunday, Oct. 9, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads and charged with driving under the influence, two counts of improper lane usage, not carrying a license on his person, operating an unsafe vehicle and violating the median, according to police.

Teens Caught With Cannabis

Police caught several teens on top of a roof at Pointe Drive and Lake Cook Road Saturday, Oct. 8, after receiving calls that some people were running around atop the building. Police escorted them down, then issued one 17-year-old from Northbrook a local ordinance ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia after he surrendered a plastic bag containing a lighter, grinder, glass pipe and small amount of cannabis. 

Retail Theft at Willow Festival 

Virginia Owans, 29, of Northbrook, was arrested Monday, Oct. 3, after she allegedly attempted to leave Home Goods on Willow Road without paying for some merchandise, according to police. 

Monica B. Cristea, 34, of Chicago, was issued a local ordinance ticket on charges of retail theft Thursday, Oct. 6, at on Willow Road, according to police.

Ludmila Vishnevsky, 57, of Wheeling, was arrested on charges of retail theft after she allegedly attempted to take toiletries without paying for them Saturday, Oct. 8, police reported.

Man Pumps Gas and Leaves

A man was seen pumping $40.29 worth of gas into a black vehicle, then left without paying at a on Dundee Road, Thursday, Oct. 6, according to police. He was last seen heading southbound on Skokie Boulevard.

Vandal Makes His Own Rules At the Skate Park

After getting into a disagreement with someone else over whether bicycles could be ridden at the skate park on Techny Road, Saturday, Oct. 8, a 13-year-old from Deerfield took a black marker and underlined the rules on the sign at the park’s entrance, according to police. He also added “no trains” to the sign. Police issued the teen a local ordinance ticket on charges of vandalism, notified his parents and instructed him to clean the writing off the sign.
