Census Shows Northbrook's Population Decreased

Results from the 2010 census show a drop in Northbrook's population, but increases in the number of Hispanic, Asian and African-American residents.

Northbrook is shrinking.

At least, that’s the verdict from the 2010 U.S. Census. Results released Tuesday show that Northbrook’s population diminished slightly, from 33,435 in 2000 to 33,170 in 2010.

The decrease in population was recorded despite Northbrook’s campaign to “Strive For 35”—35,000 residents, that is. A population of 35,000 residents is important, according to village officials, because it would qualify Northbrook for certain types of federal funding.
