Glenbrook North and South 31st and 32nd Most Challenging IL Schools
The 'Washington Post' figures are based on number of college-level tests given at a school in 2011 divided by the number of graduates that year.
A national ranking confirms what many Glenbrook North and South students already know: both are challenging schools.
But not as challenging as others.
According to The High School Challenge, released recently by the Washington Post, North and South came in 31st and 32nd respectively among Illinois high schools. Fifty-six schools were studied.
Nationwide, however, Glenbrook North came in 1074 and Glenbrook South ranks 1100 out of more than 1,900 schools in the study.
Okay, so how did these rankings come about?
Well the paper applied a simple formula: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college-level tests a school gave in 2010 divided by the number of graduating seniors.
It's not the only rankings that came out this month. US News and World Report released its report on the best high schools in the nation earlier this month. An article explaining it is in Huffington Post.

The methodology in this assessment seems flawed and perhaps inaccurate. A more correct analysis would include evaluating test scores, teacher credentials, and the actual curriculum of the schools. Then a closer approximation to the merit of difficulty could be made.

According to US News, GBN is number 19 in Illinois. Doesn't seem to add up with the data from The High School Challenge. I think I will go with the rank 19.
