Get Out: Guaranteed Weekend Fun

Why Go: Can you sing all the words to “Against the Wind?” How about “Still the Same?” Hear those songs played live by the master and his Silver Bullet Band.

Another Year
When/Where: 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14; Northbrook Public Library
Why Go: Focusing on one year in the life of a long and happily married couple and their frequently unhappy friends, director Mike Leigh investigates the nature of happiness in this Oscar-nominated film. Discussion follows the screening.

Folk Tales And Legends
When/Where: 4 p.m., Sunday, May 15; Glenbrook North High School
Why Go: Enjoy the Northbrook Symphony’s performance of songs by Gustav Mahler and Antonin Dvorak as well as a pre-concert lecture by Jim Kendros at 2:30 p.m.
Pricing: $23 and up

St. Norbert Parish Whale of A Sale
When/Where: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15; St. Norbert School
Why Go: St. Norbert’s sale offers treasures of all sorts, including tools, bikes, luggage, jewelry, golf clubs, camping gear, clothing for all ages, electronics, antiques, baby items, designer clothing and, reportedly, lots of high-quality furniture.
Pricing: Free to attend

Northbrook Girls Softball Association Breast Cancer Awareness Day
When/Where: 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, May 14; Techny Prairie Park and Fields
Why Go: Support the hometown team in a day full of softball games and raise awareness of breast cancer. Players will be wearing pink and selling pink bracelets, food and more to benefit Cancer Wellness Center and the Richard K. Desser Memorial Fund.
Pricing: Free to attend; donations and sales benefit two nonprofits

Interfaith Walk
When/Where: 1-4 p.m., Sunday, May 15; starts at Village Green Center
Why Go: Always wondered what it’s like inside? Pick up a passport book for a self-guided tour of 12 houses of worship. Participants include Gloria Dei Lutheran ChurchTemple Beth ElChristian Science Society of Northbrook and The Islamic Cultural Center of Greater Chicago. Meet back up at Village Hall at 4 p.m. for discussion, pizza and trivia games.

Community-Wide Kids Rummage Sale
When/Where: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14; Bess Hardware, 1850 Glenview Rd.
Why Go: Find toys, sporting goods, clothes, car seats, furniture, bikes,skates, sleds, strollers, books, board games, CDs and DVDs.
Pricing: Free; proceeds benefit Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook
