Get Out: Rock, Run & Reel This Weekend

Don't-miss events include Rock The Green, Relay For Life and the Youth Film Festival.

 

Rock the Green
When/Where: 6 - 9 p.m., Friday, June 10; Leisure Center
Why Go: Cheer on Northbrook’s most talented young performers as they play their hearts out in a battle for prizes and placement in the statewide contest. This year’s lineup includes Crosswalk, 42, The Beijings, The Axidents, Seagrass and Friday & Forever.           
Pricing: Free
*Note that Rock the Green has been moved indoors to the Leisure Center due to the weather. 

Friday Night Bicycle Racing
When/Where: 7 - 9:45 p.m., Friday, June 10; Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Meadowhill Park
Why Go: Want to feel the rush of wind in your hair and the thrill of speed? Hop on a stock bike and compete in the first night of bicycle racing at the velodrome. Kids race from 7-8 p.m., adults from 8:20-9:45 p.m. Call the weather hotline at 847-291-2985 for updates in case of rain.

Winnetka Children’s Fair
When/Where: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11; Village Green in Winnetka
Why Go: Got kids who are out of school and bored? Now in its 65th year, the Children’s Fair offers rides, games, craft booths and more. Stop by the Patch booth, too, we'd love to say hi!
Pricing: Free

North Shore Chamber Music Festival
When/Where: 6 and 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 10, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11; Village Presbyterian Church
Why Go: Hear the sweet sounds of Bach, Brahms, Mozart and other composers played by some of the area’s best musicians. Violinist Vadim Gluzman and pianist Angela Yoffe host the inaugural chamber music series at Village Presbyterian Church, with concerts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a lecture and demonstration on Stradivarius violins at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Block Party 5K Run & Fun Run
When/Where: 8 a.m. race, block party 3 – 10 p.m., Saturday, June 11; St. Norbert Church
Why Go: Get a dry-fit shirt, goody bag and admission to the block party (not to mention a good workout) if you race the 5K or fun run at 8 a.m. Come back at 3 p.m. for live music by Northbrook Garage and other bands, food and beverages as well as inflatables face painting and games for kids.
Pricing: $15 fun run, $30 5k; proceeds benefit Northfield Township Food Pantry and Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook.

Relay For Life
When/Where: 6 p.m. Saturday, June 11 – 6 a.m., Sunday, June 12; Glenbrook North High School
Why Go: Show your support for those affected by cancer at this 12-hour walkathon, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.
Pricing: Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society

Youth Film Festival
When/Where: 7 p.m. Monday, June 13; Northbrook Village Hall
Why Go: Check out features and documentaries created by young local filmmakers. The evening concludes with a Q&A session followed by an awards ceremony.
Pricing: Free
