An incident that lasted nearly five hours ended with police finding a man dead of an apparent gunshot wound in the 2400 block of Partridge Lane earlier this afternoon, officials said.

The and others responded to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday, which led to a subdivision street being shut down that lasted until about 7 pm, when authorities entered the home.

Police have not yet identified the individual.

Triblocal is also reporting that police initially asked people to stay in their basements and away from their windows while they dealt with what was described as a "domestic situation." They are also reporting a woman told police that her husband was inside the home and that she thought she heard a gunshot as she exited her house.

Authorities involved in the case spoke briefly to the media once the standoff ended.

"The husband was in the home, there was guns in the residence available to the gentleman, and she thought she heard as she was exiting the home, a gunshot," Northbrook Police officials said during an evening press conference.

Additonally, video footage from NBC 5 Chicago said the barricade situation prompted SWAT teams to be deployed, which included as many as 70 elite armed officers from the area. Another woman interviewed by NBC 5 said she was told the man had a rifle.
