The following release was provided by the New Tradition Chorus.
Given the overwhelming success of last year's joint concert to commemorate the events of September 11, the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and the New Tradition Chorus (TNT) are planning to join forces once again for a unique, All-American "POPS" concert. The special, one-time performance will take place at 4 PM on Sunday, September 9th, at Glenbrook South High School.
Entitled "The Glenbrook Pops - A Tribute to American Music," the concert will focus on celebrating our country's unique musical style, history and heritage. Consisting entirely of music of American-born composers, each group will perform certain pieces individually, and then come together for several combined pieces, including an "Old Songs Medley" and "Armed Forces Medley".
The concert will culminate with a rousing joint orchestral/choral finale of "Song of America", written and arranged by Jay Giallombardo, Musical Director of TNT. This all-American "Pops concert" will feature several popular musical genres, including some always-popular Broadway/Hollywood classics. Of course, there will also be some phenomenal patriotic pieces will get the audience out of its chairs!
Lead sponsor for the Pops concert will be the Allstate Insurance Company, which is providing a generous contribution to support the performance.
Per Larry Rapchak, NSO Musical Director: "After the overwhelming success of our joint venture last season, I am eagerly anticipating another collaboration between the NSO and The New Tradition Chorus, two of the premier arts organizations of our community."
Per Jay Giallombardo, Musical Director of TNT: "The New Tradition is excited and honored to be collaborating again with the NSO, and is thrilled to be sharing the stage with one of the finest orchestras on the North Shore for this inaugural POPS concert."
