Northbrook Children's Theater Holds Little Mermaid Auditions
Auditions for Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, January 9 and 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Northbrook Theatre, 3323 Walters Avenue.
A magical underwater kingdom will surface on stage in Northbrook. Auditions for Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, January 9 and 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Northbrook Theatre, 3323 Walters Avenue. Auditions are open to Northbrook Park District residents and non-residents in grades 6 through 10 and include acting, dancing and singing.
For the acting audition, students receive scenes from the script, reading partners and time to rehearse. For the dance audition, they learn and perform a short routine in the style of the show. They also need a prepared song and sheet music in the proper key for piano accompaniment. Students should wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes for dancing.
The award-winning Northbrook Theatre Children's Company has presented theatre by youth for youth for more than 30 years. “The Children’s Company is a place to have fun, learn about the theatre and teamwork,and learn to communicate and overcome the fear of getting up and expressing yourself in front of large groups of people,” said Gregg Dennhardt, Performing Arts Manager for the Northbrook Park District, the producing organization. “The show has a variety of good, strong roles for boys and girls and can provide them with an outstanding experience.”
Adapted from the 2008 Broadway production, Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. features the hit songs “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love” and the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea.” Featured roles include Ariel, Prince Eric,Ursula and Sebastian, the singing crab with a Jamaican accent. In the musical, the beautiful mermaid Ariel wants to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she will have to defy her father, make adeal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl with the enchanting voice.
The young actors who are chosen for the cast will pay a $325 participation fee ($300 for Northbrook Park District residents) to help offset production costs.
