Northbrook Fire Responds to 'Fully Engulfed' Car on Edens

No injuries were reported on Tuesday morning when a burning car halted south bound traffic on the Edens Expressway.

A single-car accident on the Edens Expressway halted Tuesday morning traffic while the Northbrook Fire Department and Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles crews cleared the scene.

According to Tim Smeltzer, the fire department's deputy chief of operations, the driver left the car before crews arrived and refused transport to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Although Smeltzer was unsure what caused the accident, when the fire department arrived the car was "fully engulfed" in flames. Traffic was halted for 30 minutes.
