Northbrook Proposes New Industrial and Commercial Services Zoning District

The Village of Northbrook is considering creating a new Industrial and Commercial Services Zoning District that would allow for more ways to use warehouses, such as using the buildings for educational and membership organizations or indoor sports activities, according to village documents.
Northbrook officials are currently discussing the idea before presenting the proposal to the plan commission -- the village doesn’t plan on rezoning any property within the community and the proposed district won’t impact property taxes, David Schoon, Northbrook’s economic development coordinator told Chicago Tribune.
The proposed district could include four areas:
- The area along Janke, Carson and Raymond drives east of Shermer Road
- The area along Holste and Old Willow roads
- A small segement along South Skokie Boulevard and Frontage Road at the extreme southeast corner of the village
- On the south side of Techny Road, across from Meadowhill South Park
Most land in the proposed new zoning district are currently designated as Restricted Industrial and Single Family Residential, the rest is in unincorporated Cook County, Chicago Tribune reported.
The idea for a new Industrial and Commercial Services Zoning district was first established in Northbrook’s 2010 Comprehensive Plan.

The village of Northbrook has already re-zoned the parcel of property at 1000 Skokie Blvd. They have allowed a contractor to begin construction of a 5 story senior residence. This property had a three story office building. The contractor bought the property , tore it down and left a lot with rubble filled with parked trucks in it for 2 years. Now we have rewarded them by re-zoning he property and allowing a building as tall as Glenbrook Hospital to be built on a postage size lot. Before you report a story, you should get your facts straight.

That's a good point, Aphrodite.
The article is referring to the Village's future property ambitions and doesn't really focus on previous zoning initiatives. Sorry for the confusion.

rezone warehouse property in sky harbor to allow for sporting operations, like indoor soccer, indoor baseball/softball training, basketball, etc. Especially for the unused properties stuck in these high vacancy commercial zones. There would be little/no effect on commercial business as the use periods for these operations would be off the "normal" 9-5 work times.
