My year between college and Patch was spent at countless concert halls, nightclubs and wandering city streets, honing a photography hobby that all-but launched my journalism career once upon a time. I occasionally refer to this period in my life as the "starving artist phase," even though my parents kept me well fed and my work was nowhere near high art.

I don't go to many concerts anymore, I'm rarely in the city and I never actually liked going to nightclubs — I'm a hungry journalist now and my photography hobby has been largely put aside.

So you might imagine my initial excitement to learn about the North Suburban YMCA's Gig at the Y summer concert series, which gave me the chance to flex the concert-photography skills I spent a quite some time honing, while also producing some decent content for Patch readers.

On Tuesday, The Nightcrawlers entertained an audience of kids and adults. The weather was perfect, the blues were on key and Chicken Charlie's filled the air with the smell of grilled poultry.

The Gig at the Y concert series ends wraps up next week with a performance by People of Swing and food for sale from Simply Thai
