Police Dog Sniffs Out Drugs

The following items were part of a staff memo distributed within the Village of Northbrook.

Police Activity

Officer Jon Salmi and his canine partner Jack assisted the Cook County Sheriff’s Office North Gang Unit on Friday, Sept. 7, to serve a search warrant in Des Plaines. Canine Jack alerted officers to several areas in the home where police said illegal drugs including cannabis, crack cocaine and heroin were located.

Police are investigating a burglary that occured on Tuesday, Sept. 11. A home in the 2500 block of Anne Lane was broken into and the homeowner reported jewelry and computer equipment missing. Evidence technicians processed the scene and a canvas was conducted of the area. Investigations personnel will continue with the investigation. 

Fire Department Activity

On Sept. 11 at approximately 8 p.m. the Northbrook Fire Department responded to the 1600 block of Silver Pine Dr. for the report of smoke coming from the dishwasher. Upon further investigation by the Fire Department a fire was located under the dishwasher and was quickly extinguished utilizing a dry chemical fire extinguisher. Although this building contained a sprinkler system, the fire did not get hot enough to activate a sprinkler. There were no reported injuries and there was about $1,500 to $2,000 in damage. Further investigation determined that this particular Viking appliance had been recalled as a fire hazard according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) For specific details about the Viking recall visit http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml12/12147.html

On Friday, Sept. 14 at about 11:15 a.m. firefighters extinguished a structure fire in a detached pool house on Braeside Ln. The owner of the property noticed smoke coming from the pool house and called the fire department. Damage was limited to the utility room and estimated at a $10,000 loss. There were no injuries.
