No arrests were made in the recovery by Northbrook and Chicago police of “Ex Nihilo Fragment Figure #2,” a bronze sculpture owned by the Northbrook-based Chase Group that's been missing for five years, according to the Northbrook Star.
The men who had the piece told police they bought it at a Morton Grove storage facility for $5,000, and further investigation could not tie the men to the art's original burglary, the Northbrook Star reports.
The piece was recently offered for sale and word reached the original owner through the art community.
Police dispatched an undercover officer and arranged to meet with the current "owner" to examine the piece. Northbrook police worked with Chicago officers and the FBI to determine the art was authentic and recovered the stolen item.
