Spartan Roundup Nov. 29
The boys hoops team started its season in style and Spartan hockey had a big week.
BOYS BASKETBALL - The hoops squad started the season with a 4-0 record in the Schnurr Thanksgiving Tournament at Niles West. They defeated Urban Prep, Lake Forest, Corliss and Chicago Vocational and won every game by double digits. Sophomore Andrew McAuliffe leads the Spartans in scoring as part of the team's tall front court.
WRESTLING - Spartan wrestling began the season by losing three matches at the GBN quad. However, seniors Andrew Maksimovic, Barret Zoph and Adam Pines went 3-0 on the day. Coach Mark Rebora said he expects big things out of the senior trio this year, since Maksimovic and Zoph both qualified for sectionals last year.
BOYS HOCKEY - The rivalry game between Glenbrook North and South took place Wednesday in front of a big crowd at the Glenview Ice Center. The Spartans pulled out a 6-3 win in an exciting game. Sophomore Garrison Sanipass had the game-winning goal with 4:48 left in the third period. The team kept the momentum rolling by winning the Stevenson Thanksgiving Tournament. GBN won five games in three days, all by multiple goals, including 4-2 wins over Stevenson and Rockford in the semfinals and finals, respectively.
