Summer’s not that far off.
And one fine way to get into the swing of summer is sit back in a lawn chair or on a blanket, munch, catch up with friends and listen to some music at Village Green Park.
The Northbrook Park District again will sponsor the free concerts, which will start at 7 p.m. most Tuesday evenings. Food service from area restaurants will start at 6 p.m.
“We’re bringing in exciting performers this year,” says Angus Shields, Leisure Services Supervisor with the Park District. “This is a great opportunity to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy free concerts with the community. We try to offer a wide range of music to appeal to everyone.”
On June 12 folks will get a two-fer, that is, the sounds of StateLine and the ever-popular Northbrook Rotary Rubber Ducky Race. The race starts at 7 p.m.; the concert will open at the end of the race. Once Upon a Grill will serve up the food that evening.
Another two-fer will be featured on June 26. At 6 p.m., the winner of the annual Rock the Green band competition will perform at 6 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., New Odyssey will bring classic rock, country, novelty and specialty arrangements to the Green. RoccoVino's will be the featured restaurant.
On July 10, hits of the 30s, 40s and 50s will be on tap with a performance by the Rhythm Rockets. RoccoVino’s again will serve up the food.
The closing night of the series will be July 24 when Spoken Four will perform. RoccoVino’s will provide the food.
Village Green is located at the corner of Shermer and Meadow roads in downtown Northbrook. No dogs are allowed in the park during concerts, and no alcohol is allowed.
