Warren Buffett Promises to Match Local Teen's Donation

The billionaire promised a $300 matching contribution to a local teen's donation to decrease the national debt.

One Northbrook teen checked her mailbox this week to find a letter from Warren Buffett.

Katie Murphy, 16, wrote a letter to the billionaire asking him to match the $300 donation she wanted to make toward decreasing the national debt, according to ABC-7 News. And on Monday, Buffett wrote back to say he would match her gift.

"I really just wanted to make a statement for my own generation who will be dealing with the unemployment and college debt, that if people don't act now that's going to be our problem for years to come," Murphy told the news station.

Gee, that's really big of him to match a 16-year-old's $300 donation, as if $300 actually means anything to him.

He is doing the 16-year-old no favors by encouraging her to believe it is her duty to donate her money to government. Buffett certainly didn't get rich by doing that. He got rich by investing. He should have told her to invest that money in a mutual fund.

Buffett is a liar. He's been parading around talking about how he pays less taxes than his poor old secretary, but look at what his secretary actually makes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/paulroderickgregory/2012/01/25/warren-buffetts-secretary-likely-makes-between-200000-and-500000year/
