12th Annual Lew Blond 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run

Maple School, 2370 Shermer Rd, Northbrook, IL | Get Directions »
$30.00

District 30's Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run fundraiser has been held annually since 2000, to honor Lew Blond, a Maple School teacher who passed away from Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS)in that same year.  He was an exceptional and dedicated educator of the applied arts and was revered and cherished by his students, colleagues and parents of the children he served.  The event attracts a wide range of participants each year.

Proceeds benefit research through the Les Turner ALS Foundation and School District 30 projects.  Race proceeds also fund scholarships for former Maple School students intending to pursue careers in education, following graduation from Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South High Schools.

The event has had successful participation every year, and is among the top running events in the north suburban area.  The 2011 event drew over 800 participants with the ten-year total funds raised at over $350,000.  Over $100,000 has been donated to the Les Turner ALS Foundation.  The race is USTFA (United States Track and Field Association) certified and CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) registered.
