Pioneering Foreign Women Filmmakers: Cleo from 5 to 7
161 Northfield Rd, Northfield, IL | Get Directions »
$10.00
Agnes Varda solidified her reputation as the grandmother of French cinema with this masterpiece, a vibrant drama exploring the internal turmoil of a beautiful, young pop singer named Cleo who awaits the results of a medical examination for cancer. Leaving behind her elegant, almost antiseptic apartment for the bustle of Parisian streets, Cleo weaves through crowds and street performers while struggling with her fears and self-recriminations, confronting her shortcomings and finding hope in a chance meeting with a young soldier about to be deployed to the Algerian war. Reid Schultz leads us in viewing and discussing this film with English Sub-titles. Registration is $10 member; $12 non-member.
