Adopt a Black Dog or Cat in November at a Reduced Adoption Fee

Heartland Animal Shelter is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society and the Petco Foundation in November to promote Back in Black, a national campaign dedicated to increasing awareness and adoptions of black and mostly black cats and dogs.  Heartland’s adoption fees for these wonderful pets are reduced by 25 percent through the end of November.

They’re gorgeous, they’re charming, and they’re as devoted as any other pet, but pets in black often wait longer for homes than their lighter colored pals. And, those who have this misfortune of winding up at “kill shelters” are often euthanized.

Mistique arrived at Heartland with her kittens who were quickly adopted.  Nearly two years later, this gentle, affectionate black cat continues to wait for her forever home.  Little dogs are usually adopted quickly, but Gibson is the exception to that rule.  A Heartland resident for almost a year, he is a young, playful Chihuahua mix who just happens to be black.  Heartland has many other wonderful black dogs and cats who are ready for adoption.
