school students will be walking the runway in glamorous gowns, polished tuxes,
and sparkling accessories at a Prom Fashion Show on April 6, in a benefit for
Northbrook Citizens for Drug and Alcohol Awareness (NCDAA). This special event,
to be held at the North Suburban YMCA, will feature Glenbrook North High School
Principal Dr. Paul Pryma as Master of Ceremonies. The show runs from 2:00 to
3:30pm, including an after-show reception and refreshments.
A number of local businesses will provide products and services to make the show memorable. Girls will model gowns from Caché of Northbrook Court, while boys will look their best in tuxedos from Men’s Wearhouse. Hair and make-up styling will be provided by Red Door Spa.
NCDAA is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit community organization, dedicated to the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by our youth. Now partnering with the NSYMCA, the NCDAA’s mission “Version 2.0” is to foster communication within families and community. NCDAA works with leading community groups and experts to coordinate family and community prevention efforts, and sponsors a wide variety of speakers to educate youth, parents, and teachers about emotional and physical health. NCDAA is an independent agency partnering with the North Suburban YMCA’s Family Life Education Department.
The event is being organized by a dedicated group of students from Glenbrook North, coordinated by community volunteer Bob Lozaro. Grace Elisco, one of the student committee members, joined the effort for a number of reasons. “I wanted to get involved in the Prom Fashion show because I hope for management and leadership to be a big part of my future, and this is a great first major experience. The NCDAA is a wonderful group to plan a charity event for, especially since so many kids my age have had problems with either drugs or alcohol. This is also a great opportunity for the seniors to unite and have fun before they graduate and go their separate ways,” she explained.
Tickets for the show will be $10 in advance, $15 at the door. The Y is located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. For advance tickets or more information, contact Sari Glazebrook, firstname.lastname@example.org.
