YMCA Membership Director Earns Advanced Degree, New Responsibilities

Sari Glazebrook, Membership Director and Special Needs Coordinator for the North Suburban YMCA, is assuming an additional role as Director of the Y’s new Family Life Education Department. This department will encompass a wide range of community support services, including NCDAA family programs on drug and alcohol awareness, Y special needs initiatives, youth volunteer leadership opportunities, and a number of specialized support programs. The new department programs are scheduled to launch in January 2014.

Glazebrook brings considerable expertise to this new position, having recently earned a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University. Her intensive program of study included two social work internships, requiring hundreds of hours in addition to her responsibilities at the Y. She also has been certified as a school social worker and will soon complete her CADC certification for alcohol and drug counseling.

“Fulfilling my degree requirements was daunting at times,” acknowledges the Northbrook resident and mother of Nathan (age 9) and Jada (7).  “Now that I’m on the other side, I am so blessed to be able to apply not only my knowledge and experience but also my passion and dedication to the Y’s new Family Life Department. We’re establishing a comprehensive program of classes and services that will support our participants in all the challenges that they face.”

“Sari is uniquely qualified to lead our new Family Life programs,” noted Howard Schultz, NSYMCA Executive Director/CEO. “In addition to her outstanding credentials, she has deep roots in our Y community and the perspective gained from hands-on experience. This new department will be central to our mission of supporting the entire community.”
