YogaFest Brings North Shore Yogis Together

The Sheraton Northbrook was transformed into a holiday Zen center as members of the community attend YogaFest 2013.  The event, designed to help attendees "de-stress for the holidays," was held on Saturday December 7th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  YogaFest 2013 was open to the public and featured five yoga workshops, along with local merchants and live music. The proceeds benefitted the North Suburban YMCA's Mind/Body Programs.

Showcasing some of the area's top veteran yoga teacher/presenters, YogaFest highlighted various styles of yoga practices in five 50-minute classes designed for all levels. The offerings included workshops with Debbie Belkin --Holiday Vinyasa ("linking breath to pose"), Debbie Muraff --Vinyasa Flow, Rebecca Kaghan --Kinesiology (mechanics of body movements) Yoga, Jamie Kanner --Hip Hop Yoga, and Wendy Sadler --Anusara ("flowing with grace") Yoga.

Exclusive area merchants were also on hand promoting their unique mind-body holiday gifts including Debbie's Designs, Inc, Ross's Boutique, Arbonne, Daisy Fitness Wear, Rebecca Kaghan, Chrio One Wellness Centers, Doterra Essential Oil, Full Bloom Lotus and Simply Wicked Art.  Louie Zagoras provided live music as he sang and played guitar.

"We are so pleased with the turnout at the event and the response from the participants," commented Jill Narens, Event Coordinator. “Based on this we are already planning the next one.  Many wonderful connections, relationships and friendships were made there in addition to a fantastic yoga experience.”

During the event the North Suburban YMCA announced that starting in 2014, all of their yoga classes will be free for members. Their Winter/Spring Program Guide with class descriptions is available at www.nsymca.org.
