Cardinal George Talks World Religions At Northbrook Temple

The Archbishop of Chicago spoke at Northbrook's Temple Beth-El about electing Pope Francis I and the Vatican's relationship with Judaism.

Francis GeorgeCardinal of the Catholic Church and Archbishop of Chicago, spoke at Temple Beth-El in Northbrook last on Friday, in one of his first public appearances after returning from Rome where he attended the installation of Pope Francis.

During Friday's appearance, George told a room of about 360 people of various faiths that under the new Pope, the Vatican could increase dialogues with world religions such as Judaism, Islam and Hinduism, according to the Northbrook Star.

George also said the former pope, Pope Benedict XVI, was a scholar who preferred working from a library more than being a public figure, so the cardinals who elected Pope Francis I sought a younger, more outgoing pontiff, the Northbrook Star reports.
