Chance of Snow in Northbrook: 100%

Snow parking ban was in effect by 4 p.m. Thursday.

Sure, there wasn't much snow for the month of December, but on Thursday, the skies began dumping the white stuff early.

By 4 p.m., at least two inches had accumulated in Northbrook, and traffic had slowed to a crawl on major arteries like Waukegan and Willow roads. Plows were spotted downtown, beginning the slow but steady process of clearing the roads--even as more snow was predicted.

Up to four inches of snow are expected by the end of the day Thursday, with another three to five inches arriving overnight, according to the National Weather Service

Northbrook sent an e-mail blast to residents, reminding them that it is illegal to park on village streets after two or more inches of snow have accumulated and while plows are in operation.

"You can help crews clear our roadways as quickly as possible by not parking on the street during snow removal operations," village spokesperson Cheryl Fayne-dePersio wrote in an e-mail to members of the press. "Our number one concern is the safety of those using the streets."

According to Fayne-dePersio, the village will give priority to major streets including Walters Avenue, Cherry Lane, Pfingsten Road and Shermer Road.
