Cross Country Cyclists Ride Through Northbrook

Northbrook village president Sandra Frum presented the cyclists with a proclamation and has declared Friday, Aug. 3 as Bike 4 Friendship Day.

Twelve cross country cyclists trekking 3,279 miles from Los Angles to New York in support of Friendship Circle’s programming for children and adults with special needs stopped in Chicago for their weekly Shabbat rest hosted by the Stuart I Raskas Friendship Circle of Illinois and .

The ride has drawn bikers from a variety of different backgrounds, from experts to amateurs, but all share a passion for helping children with special needs. Two of the cyclists are from the Chicagoland area and one was a member of an elite unit in the Israeli Defence Forces.

The Friendship Circle of Illinois is a Jewish, not for profit organization founded on the belief of V’Ahavta L’Reacha Kamocha (love your fellow as yourself), and dedicated to creating a supportive Jewish community for special needs children, their families and high school volunteers.

The group offers programs that match teen volunteers with special needs children and their families and provides workshops, lectures and parties for everyone involved.
