Get Out: Football, Fundraisers And The Arts

This weekend's offerings include a fundraiser for Northbrook School District 28, Glenbrook North's first football game and several music and arts events.

Why Go: Watch the Spartans take on Hersey in the first football game of the season, at home at Glenbrook North. Although two-year starter QB  has graduated, Glenbrook North’s lineup still looks good, including junior RB Grant Rushing, .

American Craft Exposition 2011
When/Where: Aug. 26 to 28, Henry Crown Sports Pavilion at Northwestern University, 2311 Campus Drive, Evanston
Why Go: End the summer by sampling the wares of some of the United States’ top crafters. A portion of proceeds go to NorthShore University HealthSystem’s research on ovarian cancer. 
Price: $15 for a three-day pass, $5 for children 10 and under

Friday, Aug. 26, to Sunday, Aug. 28; 600 Central Ave., Highland Park
Why Go:
Feast all five senses in Highland Park this weekend, where the offerings include a juried art fair, food from the city’s many acclaimed restaurants, live music and more.

Enjoy brunch or dinner at Prairie Grass Café and raise money for a new organic garden and outdoor classroom for .

Reward completion of the first homework assignments of the year with actor Jack Black and some animated panda kung fu.

When/Where: 5-9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28; Why Go: Event organizers say the car dealership will be transformed into a Caribbean resort complete with casino games, music, prizes and food catered by Wolfgang Puck. Proceeds support the North Suburban YMCA’s Capital Campaign.
