Lake Cook Project Runs 2 Weeks Early

Roadwork effort moves to next stage on Lake Cook Road two weeks ahead of schedule.

By Steve Sadin

Running two weeks ahead of schedule, the Lake Cook Road construction project entered its third phase today moving the repaving operation to the southern half of the street, according to Project Manager John Guccione.

“They’re ahead on a very aggressive schedule to begin with,” Guccione said.

Repaving work on the north side of the roadway is complete and cars are now driving on it. The contractor began work today on the southern half of the street as it works toward an Oct. 26 deadline to complete the project.

“People are already driving on the new pavement and the contractor has started tearing up the other side of the road,” Guccione said.

Guccione expects the businesses on the north side of the street will find some pressure eased though he knows the next phase will increase pressure on merchants on the Cook County section of the road.

“We’re trying to come up with ways to help the situation,” Guccione said. He welcomes suggestions from merchants affected by the project.

The contractor has its own incentive to finish the work early. The firm will earn a bonus of $17,500 a day for each day it finishes the entire project in front of the Oct. 26 deadline up to 30 days. There is a $17,500 penalty for each day the effort continues beyond Oct. 27 up to 30 days.
