Rotarian Peace Hall of Fame at Illinois Holocaust Museum

Sir Nicholas Winton, 104, who saved nearly 700 children from the Nazi death camps in 1934 will be inducted this month into the Rotarian Peace Hall of Fame. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 26 in the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, 9603 Woods Drive, Skokie.

First Human Case of West Nile Virus in Suburban Cook County

Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) officials confirm the first human case of West Nile virus. A man in his 50s from Oak Lawn became ill late last month with the virus; he was hospitalized but was released and is recovering. The virus is widespread in suburban Cook County with 208 mosquito pools and five dead birds having tested positive for West Nile virus.

Will college education be the next casualty?

A week or so ago President Obama was on a two-day bus trip across New York and Pennsylvania, this time campaigning for affordable college education in an attempt to shame colleges into easing costs.  Apparently Obama thinks a college education is necessary for a good job, therefore a fundamental right.  According to Obama,  college just costs too much for everyone to afford.

Cheap Trick Review At Ravinia: Cheap Trick Meets The Beatles!

This past Saturday evening at Chicago's best outdoor venue, Ravinia hosted the venerable Cheap Trick. Led by original bandmates and future Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Rick Nielsen, Robin Zander and Tom Petersson, Rockford's Cheap Trick opened their live set with The Beatles Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band beginning with the title track from the classic LP!
