Max Fabian Turns 104, Celebrates With YMCA

The World War 2 vet still exercises at the North Suburban YMCA, where he is the oldest member.

The following post was based on a press release from the North Suburban YMCA.

Max Fabian plans to celebrate his 104th birthday during a public party at the North Suburban YMCA on Saturday, March 9. He is the Y's most senior member.

A Y member for decades, Fabian still exercises almost every day at the facility. His diligent approach to fitness began with military training for World War II and has kept him going strong throughout the following years.

He was even working at Northbrook's A-Z Industries until November 2011.

His birthday celebrations have become an annual event at the Y, where he inspires the staff and members with his cheerful determination.

“Max is a wonder, without a doubt. He really exemplifies the values of healthy living that we all admire,”  NSYMCA Executive Director/CEO Howard Schultz said in the release. “It’s been a great pleasure to celebrate the last few birthdays with him as a community, and we look forward to even more.”

As part of his special day, Fabian will toss up the basketball for a ceremonial tip-off in the Y’s annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament before joining guests for cake and refreshments at 2:00 pm.

Well-wishers are invited to stop by the March 9 event to participate in the birthday celebration. For more information, contact Ali Friduss, NSYMCA Director of Marketing and Communications, afriduss@nsymca.org.
