Northbrook Dog Park Expects Autumn Opening

The new dog park will include separate areas for small and large dogs, and lots of parking space.

The Northbrook Park District has announced plans for the construction of a dog park at Coast Guard Park, 2490 Dundee Road, just west of the Northbrook Post Office.

At its monthly meeting on July 24, the Board of Park Commissioners approved a bid to develop the park. Construction is expected to start within 30-45 days with an anticipated opening in late fall.

The Park District is building a dog park in response to growing interest in the community, as expressed in surveys and public meetings. Northbrook residents have identified a dog park as an unmet need in the community and
asked for a place where dogs could play off-leash and socialize with other dogs.

Almost 100 residents attended a Public Input Meeting in August of 2012 to review design concepts for a dog park. The site plan for the dog park includes the following elements:

  • Area for large dogs (2 acres)
  • Area for small dogs (.5 acre)
  • Fence, shelter and dog wash
  • Parking for 37 cars
  • Playground
