The following information, also from the village, is about two local artists participating in the fest:
Glenbrook North High School alum Dennis Downes, will be at Northbrook’s Art in the Park on July 12 & 13. Dennis’ work was recently featured at the Thompson Center in Chicago.
The main body of Dennis’ work has been inspired by research trips to ancient sites and to natural wonders across the Great Lakes Region and Beyond. Dennis’ travels began at a young age, taking trips to visit his mother’s people, the Basque Berriochoa Clan, living in the Idaho and Montana Rocky Mountain area. His travels have inspired both his paintings and his sculptures. Dennis currently works out of Northeastern Illinois, as well as the Wilderness Coast of Ontario. Each original painting is presented in a handmade frame. He has participated in over 100 solo, juried, public and private shows in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Several of Dennis’ sculptures and paintings are on permanent display at museums, public libraries, historical societies, and national landmarks, as well as private collections across the country.
Northbrook resident Ken Call will be at Northbrook’s Art in the Park on July 12 & 13.Ken Call is an established artist of tremendous talent. Ken’s original paintings combine realism and detail with a distinctive fair of creative style. Ken does not sacrifice his artistic style for the sake of realism and his paintings have a surreal, flowing feel. Born and raised in Rochelle, Il, Ken went on to graduate from the American Academy of Art. He has worked as a freelance artist nationally for many years. Ken spent 1993 and 1994 studying and painting in Paris, France. He is now living and working in Northbrook, IL, with his wife and two children.
Ken has produced original artwork on commission for the NFL, NBA, NCAA, NASCAR, Major League Baseball, McDonalds, Adidas, Eli Lily, Quaker Oats, and several international organizations, as well as several original pieces for the New York Sports Museum & Hall of Fame. Ken has at this time over 24 limited editions in print including several sold out editions. His originals can be seen at many hotels and art galleries throughout the country.
