There are plenty of establishments around town that can satisfy your craving, and so we've highlighted a few below. Add your own favorite-and tell us how you like it topped--in the comments section below.

The Motherlode at the original Claim Company was a significant part of my high school experience; the revival is just as good as I remember the original being. My turkey burger with blue cheese, fried onions and a side of Claim sauce on a pretzel roll was wonderful, and no less satisfying than it’s beef counterpart. Build your own Motherlode around beef, veggie or turkey patties as well as a chicken breast or a tuna steak.

This local favorite has a burger for every palate; the GH burger with iceberg lettuce, marinated tomato, sweet onion and cheese on a brioche bun; a turkey burger with cabbage, ginger, cilantro and spicy Asian aioli; and a vegetarian burger with brown rice, sweet potato, pistachio and topped with pesto.

The owner, Josh Kaplan, was working the counter when I went in for a cheeseburger after a particularly long week at work, and I was thrilled that the week ended on such a high note. The lettuce and tomatoes were crisp and fresh, the patty was tender and juicy. Nevermind that the television was on in the corner of the room, my son and I were mesmerized by the friendly line cooks’ quick hands. Find a way to work Josh’s into your burger rotation.

Yard House promises customers three things: Great food, classic rock, and according to the t-shirts for sale near the restaurant's entrance in , the world’s largest selection of beer. Pair their bearnaise sliders with a frosty selection or try the bbq bacon and cheddar for something more classic but whatever you do, don't forget the parmesan truffle fries!

A stop at Meatheads’ Facebook page shows that fans are loyal, and with good reason. The huge burgers are fresh and made to order; topping choices include fried eggs, sauerkraut, roasted red peppers, pineapple and signature sauces such as cucumber wasabi.

Wildfire, Glenview

Step up your next burger run with a stop at Wildfire. It serves up an exceptional traditional hamburger, but I lean toward the bison burger trio: three sliders with cheddar, parmesan and blue cheese crusts. The curbside parking for a run up to the restaurant’s separate take-out counter makes the whole experience an indulgence.
