Patch Picks For A Memorable Memorial Day

Make the most of this holiday weekend with family and neighbors at these promising events.

Memorial Day does double duty: it honors the U.S. soldiers who died in service to our country, and it marks the unofficial beginning of summer. Here are just a few ways to spend the wonderfully long weekend in and around town.

Field of Honor

You’ll find 1,901 flags flying high in Northbrook’s  this weekend. The total number of flags honors the year Northbrook was incorporated, and each individual flag honors a hero; for example, the 43 flags circling the baseball diamond honor the Northbrook men who died in service to their country. When you visit the tribute, you’ll also find live music in the gazebo. Stay for a sunset ceremony each night at 8 p.m., lead by a local religious leader. The tribute is sponsored by the , the , George W. Benjamin American Legion Post 791 and VFW Post 10236.
