These longer days of summer sun bring great opportunities to eat out - literally - any night of the week. Consider one of these local patios on a sunny summer day.
Open to the public from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., The Grill at The Glen Club offers outdoor seating with a view of the 18th hole. Find the menu online, with American fare ranging from beer-battered fried pickles (!) to grilled salmon with garlic risotto and charred tomato coulis.
There is outdoor seating at both of Hackney’s Glenview locations, but the patio on Harms Road is my favorite – there is just something about those silver poplars. Open since 1939, Hackney’s original restaurant is a great spot for a burger and a beer (or grilled cheese and a Green River) any afternoon.
When Date Night ends with “…and a movie,” ask for a table on the patio at P.F. Chang’s. Although the stone horses are easy to spot from Lake Cook Road, the patio is shielded by lush trees. Enjoy chicken with black bean sauce steps from the and still have room for popcorn.
Consider the patio at Northbrook’s Zapatista. Lush landscaping and some skilled decorating mask this hideaway off of Willow Road, making it a great spot for an afternoon snack of fresh, made-to-order guacamole or a late night meal with friends (have something with refried beans).
