Patch Picks for A Ghastly Good Halloween

Make Halloween festive for yourself or a house full of guests.

Whether you're planning a Halloween party, stringing fake cobwebs or filling up the candy bowl for yourself--and the kids--Halloween is always fun. Treat yourself, trick your friends, and raise your spirits with any of these Halloween supplies, all available locally.

Does your office have a candy bowl? Make takers look twice with some of the novelty candies available here. Look for body part sushi rolls, witches finger lollipops and BooDoo ghost poop-shaped gum drops. And for the cocktail party you're hosting after hours, consider a bottle of wine from the Velvet Devil, Black Cat or Spanish Demon.

There no telling if any of the antiques in this local treasure house are haunted, but the front window reveals that the staff is full of Halloween spirit. Check out the decorations - including two sizes of witches' brooms - and cocktail plates here.

Who says serving platters must be reserved for birthday cakes and crudités? The serving plates and platters stocked at Confection Connection are nearly too pretty to be covered by food. Brightly colored leaves, sculpted bats, and the cutest mummies you've ever seen will happily catch the day's mail or your car keys throughout the Halloween season. Use them to serve up some of the ladies' candy creations and to make your table memorable.

Yes, candy is the star of this holiday. But there's no reason to leave the cookies in the dust. Build your sweet table around a centerpiece of delicious ghosts, witches, black cats and bats from Cookies in Bloom.

Leave it to your corporate neighbor to class up Halloween decorations. Colorful welcome mats with Halloween themes set the tone for your visitors (and catch the leaves that blow in on blustery days), while bright orange mugs, spider cupcake holders and black cat drink stirrers keep guests wondering what tricks you've got planned.

I prefer the treats on Halloween, but that's no reason to forget the tricks entirely. Put a skull in the coffee cabinet or a scythe in the umbrella stand. Halloween City will have almost any prop you need to wake your loved ones up with a start.
