PHOTOS: Fun And Games Warm Up Winter Carnival-Goers

Park District's annual winter carnival includes sled decorating contest and chili cookoff.

Approximately 700 people turned out for the 's annual Winter Carnival at on Saturday, Jan. 14. Thursday's storm came just in time to blanket the park with snow, and the plow trucks convenienently left behind a pile for kids to climb on. 

Families enjoyed snowboarding and dogsled demonstrations, a snowshoe obstacle course and free s'mores around a bonfire. Winners of both a chili cookoff and a sled decorating contest were named; the honorees are listed below.

Spiciest: David Schwartzberg, “Thai Mexican Chili”

Best Firehouse Chili: Thomas Schaul, , “Sunset Fire Brew”

Most Creative/Unique: Elle Harris, “Dessert Chili” (vanilla ice cream, crushed Oreos, chocolate chips and M&Ms 

Best Overall: Andrew Goodwin and Spyros Bakis, “Northshore Smoked Red” (smoked pulled pork and homemade chili powder)

Best Overall: A football field by 's Adventure Campus

Best Theme: A school bus by 4-year-olds from Sunshine Preschool  

Best Team Effort: A garden of flowers with each student's picture on the flowers by l's Adventure Campus 

Best Use of Recycled Materials: A deer in a field by the 3-year-olds from Sunshine Preschool 

Best Family Effort: Disk sleds with a snow theme by Elly and Sooah Choi
