Travelers heading back to Northbrook during rush hour Friday face a long commute. While the Milwaukee-District North Metra line was reporting no delays as of 4 p.m. Friday, the agency was predicting slower travel times and possible delays.

Anyone attempting to avoid the rush-hour commute got stuck in traffic as major arteries slowed early due to the heavy snowfall. According to the Chicago Tribune, traffic from Deerfield Road to the Circle on the Edens was taking roughly three hours either way as early as 3 p.m.

Those who had hoped to get out of the area by air on Friday were probably out of luck, too: airlines canceled more than 300 flights at O'Hare, and Southwest Airlines canceled all of its flights between 2 and 5 p.m. at Midway, the Tribune reports. As of 4 p.m., Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling was operating just one of its three runways.
