Union Pacific Selects Contractor for Shermer Road Bridge

The following report was provided by the Village of Northbrook weekly staff memo.

Village of Northbrook staff was notified last week that construction contractor, Illinois Constructors Corporation, has been selected by the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) to reconstruct the Shermer Road bridge which collapsed last year after a train derailment.

Some site work has commenced at the Willow and Shermer roads intersection, and the bridge work is proceeding on schedule. Village staff expects to receive regular construction updates from the UP throughout the construction process. 

While the bridge is expected to be open by the end of 2013, roadway traffic will not be available until 2014. The attached photo offers a schematic view of the new bridge, looking southbound on Shermer Road.
