Union Pacific Train Derailment Caused $5M In Damage

A Federal Railroad Administration report of last year's train derailment has been released.

The Federal Railroad Administration has published its assessment of last year's Union Pacific train derailment which caused a bridge to collapse and crush a couple driving below.

Among the report's conclusions are about $5,218,829 in equipment, track and structure damage.

The FRA also confirmed previous speculation that a sun kink in the rail caused the train to derail, as opposed to UP staff fatigue or negligence. The train was traveling 38 m/h in a 40 m/h zone.
