Bob Alper/ Rabbi/Stand-Up Comic (Really)

It will be 90 minutes of non-stop laughter when Bob Alper, “the world’s only practicing clergyman doing stand-up comedy…intentionally,” makes his greater Northbrook debut in a program open to the community at Temple Beth-El, 3610 Dundee Road, on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.

Adult tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.  Youth tickets (11 -18) are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.  A special movie and snack will be provided for children 10 and under with the purchase of an adult ticket. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Bob Alper is a graduate of Lehigh University, was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, and is the first Jewish person ever to earn a doctorate from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served congregations in Buffalo and Philadelphia, where he continues to conduct High Holiday services.

Bob began his comedy career in 1986 when he entered the "Jewish Comic of the Year Contest” at the Going Bananas club in Philadelphia. Television, radio and personal appearances followed as he quickly honed his distinctive approach to stand-up. He has been seen on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Showtime, the BBC, and CNN, among many others.

Bob is the author of two books that further showcase his considerable talents: Life Doesn't Get Any Better Than This, an inspirational collection now in its fifth printing, and the award-winning full-color cartoon book A Rabbi Confesses.  He’s also produced two best-selling comedy CDs, and recently released his 102-minute DVD, What are you…a comedian?
