Summer Stock at Northbrook Farmers Market

Northbrook Farmers Market once again is asking the community to help stock Northfield Township Food Pantry shelves with dry goods and household products such as paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent and disposable diapers.

Summer Stock 2012 will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, at the market in the Our Lady of the Brook church parking lot, 3700 Dundee Road.

"This is our third year partnering with the township on the Summer Stock event," said Dale Duda,  volunteer market manager. "Farmers market patrons have been very generous in previous years, and we know pantry clients really need the assistance."

The farmers market already donates fresh fruits and vegetables every Wednesday to the pantry, but items such as paper towels and household cleaning products can strain already tight budgets. "We tend to take these things for granted, but they are necessities and they can be expensive," said Duda.

The timing of this event is perfect because during the summer many people are on vacation and busy with other priorities so the pantry's stock of household items can run low, according to Jill Brickmann, Northfield Township supervisor. "Our clients are always so grateful for people's generosity," she said.

Northfield Township will staff the Community Booth in the center of the market where items should be brought for drop off. Volunteers will be available to help unload cars for those needing assistance with their donated items.
