Did you know that white actors played all of the roles of black characters in Birth of A Nation, one of the most famous—and controversial—silent films? Learn the back story of how films have affected race relations in America from Columbia College Professor Vaun Monroe. In honor of black history month, Monroe will show short film clips and engage the audience in discussion on race relations in the U.S. Presented by the Northbrook Community Relations Commission.


Where/When: Weekly on Fridays at 4 p.m., at 3535 Dundee Rd, Northbrook, (Sportsmans Golf Clubhouse dining area).
Why Go:  Stuff yourself to the gills at the all-you-can eat fish fry, every Friday until April 22. The buffet raises money for American Legion 791 and includes a cash bar.

If you like Graham Greene, crazy aunts and British accents, this is a play for you. This adaptation is based on Greene’s novel about a retired banker and his incredibly eccentric aunt—but four men play all the characters, constantly switching roles and keeping the audience on its toes.

Why Go: Chicagoland’s opera singers all in one place, belting out melodies to raise money for Connections for the Homeless and the Unitarian Church of Evanston.
