Holiday Guide: Art and Entertainment for the Season

Concerts and shows abound in the area as a way to celebrate and enjoy the holidays.

Start a new holiday tradition by seeing the Northbrook Symphony and Northbrook Community Choir present Home for the Holidays, a musical community celebration December 2 from 4-6 p.m. The show will be at Divine Word Chapel at Techny Towers, 2001 Waukegan Rd. in Techny.

Several other community choirs from Our Lady of the Brook and St. Norbert Parish in Northbrook and St. Patrick Church in Lake Forest will participate.

Enjoy a spectacular performance by the men's a cappella ensemble that is the New Tradition Chorus. The group will perform The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, an all-inclusive show with both Christmas and Hanukkah numbers.

The New Tradition Chorus is an award-winning all-volunteer men's a cappella group made up of singers across northern Illinois, including several from Northbrook.  The group has won 19 medals in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Chorus Contest including a streak of 8 Silver Medals (followed by a Gold Medal in ’01) that remains unrivaled.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year will hit the stage December 1 at 2:30 and 8 p.m. and Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Watson Auditorium at Glenbrook South High School, 4000 West Lake Ave. Glenview.

The Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences will perform Snow White January 19-23. Showtimes are 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 online or at the door.

The Northbrook Theatre Department of Performing Arts is a program of the Northbrook Park District’s Division of Leisure Services, created to allow patrons the opportunity to enjoy and participate in quality, local theatrical productions.

The Chicago Masters Singers and the Ars Viva String Orchestra will perform Away in a Manger Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Divine Word Chapel. The performance will include Christmas music.

Members of the Evanston Music Club will perform a free concert Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Northbrook Library, 1201 Cedar Lane.

The Evanston Music Club began 107 years ago and how has members from the North Shore area and Chicago. Instrumentalists will include a pianist, flutist, and violinist.
