How To Play Piano Like A Village President

Mark Damisch, Northbrook's former Village President, will perform a piano concert in Glenview on Thursday.

Mark Damisch, Northbrook's former Village President, plans to arrive home from an upcoming European concert tour empty handed. The internationally renowned pianist makes his music career sound like a non-profit.

"All the concerts that I do are either fundraisers or for good will," Damisch said. "I don't take money for concerts, I pay for my own hotel and airfare."

The North Shore native will hold a preview concert of his European tour in Glenview on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Rd. in Glenview.

The concert will feature music by Aaron Copland, Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff, the Chicago Tribune reports. Damisch says he will also include an audience participation version of a popular Beatles song.

The show is open to the public, with a $10 recommended donation with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.

Damisch's tour will span 21 countries over 35 days, including stops in Washington, D.C., Denmark, Finland and Russia.

"I think it's good for people to go out and use what God gave you to make the world a better place," Damisch said.
