Northbrook Symphony Offers Free Tickets

Newcomers to the symphony can receive a free ticket to the April 7 performance of "Treasures of the Romantic Era."

The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra will host a line-up of multinational composers during its "Treasures of the Romantic Era" concert on Sunday, April 7 at Glenbrook North High School.

The concert includes complete symphonies by Beethoven and Mozart, along with other French and Italian arrangements performed by the NSO's 70 professional musicians.

The orchestra is promoting its April show by offering free main floor tickets to Northbrook residents who've never been to one of the group's shows before, according to the Northbrook Star.

A second offer for free balcony tickets is available to anyone from Northbrook or a surrounding community who donates food to the United Way, according to the NSO.

Those who wish to attend the concert must call (847) 272-0755 for tickets by April 3.

Guests can also attend a pre-show, one-hour lecture at 2:30 p.m. with Jim Kendros, a local music historian and Oakton Community College lecturer.

James Kendros, who teaches music appreciation at Oakton and Harper community colleges, said patrons attend his one-hour, 2:30 p.m. lecture before the concert to learn about the composers and music they are about to hear.
